Rangers were a club formed by four persons—brothers Moses McNeil and Peter McNeil, Peter Campbell, and William McBeath. They met up at Kelvingrove Park (then known as West End Park) in the first quarter of 1872. By May, the club had its first match which culminated in a goalless draw. Moses McNeil also became the club’s first representative to the Scottish National Team later in 1876;by 1878, the club hoisted its first cup with the Glasgow Merchants’ Charity Cup going their way via a 2-1 defeat of Vale of Leven, the very same time they had a match against prior to that year.
