Under this page, you’ll be getting the seasons where Rangers FC played in the cup. The club played some competitive football starting in the 1870’s—particularly in 1875. Moses McNeil and David Gibb were the top scorers. The season played out as follows:

  • In 12 October 1874, Oxford (Glasgow) lost to the Rangers via a 2-0 drubbing thanks for McNeil and Gibb’s goals.
  • The 28 November 1874 fixture against Dumbarton played out in a draw.
  • The 12 December 1874 match ended in a 0-1 defeat against the same team.

 

  • The following year, 16 October 1875, the First Lanark Rifle Volunteers went down hard against the Rangers via a 7-0 deficit. J. Campbell, Watson, P. Campbell and Phillips were the scorers.
  • On 30 October 1875, a match against Third Lanark played to a 1-1 draw courtesy of P. Campbell’s goal.
  • The return match, however, ended with a 1-2 loss against Lanark with McNeil scoring the lone goal for the club.

 

  • In the matches starting 30 September 1876, the club won against Queen’s Park Juniors with a 4-1 score.
  • The next match against Towerhill on 21 October, 1876 was a cakewalk via the 8-0 score.
  • It continued on 9 December 1876 against Mauchline, where the club won handily 3-0.
  • On 30 December 1876, the quarterfinals were played against Lennox that ended in a 3-0 victory.
  • The semifinals on 17 March 1877 resulted in a draw against Vale of Leven, their eventual Finals opponents.
  • Vale of Leven managed to remain equalized with the club via a draw on 7 April 1877.
  • The 13 April 1877 Finals ended in defeat. Leven eventually broke away with a 2-3 win against the club.
